When and why did you decide to join the military and where were you located when you made this decision?
I signed up the day after the Pearl Harbor attack. Our country had been attacked. Kay (my wife) and I were living in Southern California.
Where did you serve during your time in uniform?
I served as a co-pilot/navigator in a B-17 based in England. We were shot down over The Netherlands spending 2 1/2 years as a POW in Keil, Germany
What were some of your key memories during your time of service?
I loved to fly. The best memory, of course, was being liberated from prison camp. Getting back to the US.
What is an important value that you took away from your military experience?
The value of service to our country. Never give up.
What advice would you give someone interested in joining the military?
Service to your country is an important part of being a citizen.
