ERIC ALEMADA

When and why did you decide to join the military and where were you located when you made this decision?

As a young kid I decided to join up. don't let the streets get you. the Military helped me out. I did 15 years, even during 9/11.

Where did you serve during your time in uniform?

Not a war when I served. Germany, California.

What were some of your key memories during your time of service?

Taught me to be a medic. I became a transplant technician when I came out. Great training. Reunion of survivors of transplants.

What is an important value that you took away from your military experience?

Great training. 1st transplant hit me hard - a young girl who drowned. Learned camaraderie and collaboration. Learned about diversity, how to live in the woods from an Indian. Helped me be a medic.

What advice would you give someone interested in joining the military?

As a young man, I didn't know which way to go. When you first joined, it's hard on you. 1st 2 months - lots of yelling. Then it gets good. Do something you love and stick with it.
