When and why did you decide to join the military and where were you located when you made this decision?

1962 I was in college and completed two years mandatory ROTC. I decided to do two more years and go into army as a second lieutenant after graduation. It was a chance to see the world plus my father and all my uncles had served in WWII.

Where did you serve during your time in uniform?

Ft Gordon, GA, flight school and Viet Nam.

What were some of your key memories during your time of service? 

I was an Aircraft Commander, Platoon Leader and Flight Leader in 1st Cav from 27 Feb 1967 to 9 Feb, 1968. Injured leading a combat assault with loss of left hand and left eye. Many memories of heroism by the best and most courageous pilots in the world.
